This activity is designed to improve and develop a better understanding of the Module’s topics. The activity incorporates both critical thinking and the application for the Fire Officer.

Discussion

Reference a recent on-duty injury within your department. Define the injury using the four components of the Haddon matrix and explain how the injury could have been avoided, or steps your department can take to mitigate further injuries like this.
Haddon matrix components

human factors – related to the employee or person involved in the injury
the energy vector – what caused the injury
the physical environment – where the risk is likely to occur
the social environment – the organization’s climate, values, and beliefs
